Social Media Alert: Facebook Overhauls Business Pages

March 16, 2012

Pages will look like mini-websites; Older setups could look broken

Market Hardware Facebook Timeline PageFacebook announced on March 4th that it has overhauled its Business Page layout and introduced several new features to improve user experience. Not much time for business owners to adjust: Business Pages will be required to change over to the new ‘Facebook Timeline’ format by March 30th.

Many users are familiar with the Timeline format, as personal pages are already changing over, so it was simply a matter of months before Business Pages followed. The new format allows for increased page customization and easier interaction with fans. The changes will provide users a more visual experience when viewing Business Pages thanks to more customization. ‘Business owners are going to be caught with their pants down if they are not ready for the changes,’ says Rebecca Hussey, Market Hardware Social Media Team Leader.

Why you should care:

By now, you should already have a Facebook Business Page set up. If you don’t take any action on your existing page, it will automatically change to the Timeline format on March 30th. However, some of the new features will not be updated automatically, and your visitors will know if you are not keeping your page up to date. Simply put, your page might look broken.

If you don’t have a page yet, now is the time to get started. Don’t be left behind.

Better pages mean more ‘word of mouth’ referrals

Aside from taking action on the new format, consider what the revamp means for Business Pages in general. Facebook is consistently growing business offerings, and the increased customization options will make it easier to win new business from social media. If you still haven’t set up a Facebook Business Page or want to talk about cover photos, highlights, or milestones (a few of the new Timeline features), contact us and, keep an eye out for our next Web Success Newsletter, which will detail these changes and tell you exactly what you need to do to your page.
